Pop Music is Easy
Warning: the video is Japanese, so you won’t understand the lyrics.
The interesting thing to note is that there is no “man behind the curtain”. All of the lyrics and music you hear were generated by a computer program. There is no physical pop star. Since this is a live concert, there are humans playing the actual instruments, but the performer is, as you can see, still fake.
The program is called Vocaloid. It simulates the phonemes (sounds we make to produce words and syllables) at different pitches to create a realistic, although defiantly computer sounding, song.
Since J-Pop has that bouncy, up tempo beat, and most of the singers strive to sound this way, it was no wonder this technology was used to create a viable pop act.
