Summer Is Afoot

Summer is now in full swing, having just passed the second major holiday of the season.  While I enjoy going out and about in the sunshine just as much as everyone else, there are a few items which only cross my mind this time of year.

For instance, people are bugged by the fact that I don’t wear flip flops or sandals.  Many of my friends are puzzled by my year-round love of jeans and boots, but it’s just my thing.  I don’t care if you all want to wear flip flops because the temperature is finally above 60°.  Just don’t make comments about my choice to wear something else.

Speaking of choices I don’t agree with, lately (as I’ve said before), there isn’t a day that goes by when I’m not tempted to drive with a big bag of rocks in my passenger seat so I can hurl one at the rear windshield of the car ahead of me whose driver just threw their cigarette out the window.  If you want to suck fire into your lungs, go right ahead, but stop littering the roads by tossing your poisons out the window.  Get an ashtray in your car and keep your trash on your own turf.  You’ve already inhaled 95% of your lung dart so letting it linger inside your car shouldn’t harm you that much more.

Finally, since flip flops have become daily footwear for so many these days (and I use the term “footwear” loosely), I can’t help but notice how so many women have tattoos on their feet.  Maybe I’m behind on this one but these tattoos seem to be a recent trend, like the new tramp stamp.  You remember those, don’t you?  Not so long ago, women would get a tattoo above their ass of some tribal symbol, a butterfly, or the name of their favorite Chinese dish.  Personally, I don’t see the point in getting a tattoo is a place where you can’t see it, but people are free to do what they want.  Maybe that’s why the foot thing has taken off.  With all the chicks that seem to live in flip flops, it could be they’ve taken a cue from their older sisters who aren’t able to admire their ink.  I don’t know and I don’t particularly care, but it’s just an observation I’ve recently made.

That’s it for this week.  If you’re jonesin’ for some summertime laughs, make sure you check out Episode 37: SummerCast and listen as we talk about all the best and worst of this time of year.
